With more than 40 years as a reining champion and trainer, Francois Gauthier has created an impressive legacy. While an active competitor he earned two silver medals from the World Equestrian Games and numerous Derby, Congress and Open Futurity wins. Originally from Quebec, Canada, Francois relocated to North Carolina in 1992 where he established Sunny Pines Farm, in order to breed and train champion reining horses. More than 150 horses are bred and trained at Sunny Pines every year.
Now in retirement, when asked about the aspect of his legacy, Gauthier defers to his father’s generation. Gauthier’s father was the first quarter horse breeder in Quebec, starting in 1965.Understanding the importance of having the right tools for effective training, Gauthier knows that good tack is a key ingredient for winning results. Thus, he’s worked in close partnership with METALAB and LAMI-CELL to develop a full line of equestrian items dedicated to professional riding. From bits to spurs, boots to pads, cinches to straps, all METALAB/LAMI-CELL products have been ruggedly tested before entering the market.
Francois is a 15-time NRHA Futurity Finalist and NRHA Judge. He has also won some of the most prestigious reining events, including the All-American Quarter Horses Congress in Columbus, the Italian Derby and Americana in Germany. 2002 Silver Medal at the World Equestrian Games in Spain, 2004 All-American Quarter Horses Congress, AQHA Junior Reining Champion and 2004 NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion.
